PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL Present: Tom Anderson,Thad Bell, Wallace Bonaparte, Bruce Elliott, Jim Fisher, Ray Greenberg, Anne Kilpatrick, Sarah King, John Raymond, Jerry Reves, Ken Roozen, Sabra Slaughter (Secretary), Stuart Smith, and John Sutusky Guests: Lisa Montgomery, Mike Keel, Ralph Greene, Suzie Edwards, Chris Murray, Bruce Quinlan, and Patrick Wamsley NOTE: Copies of all handout and visual materials used at the meeting are on file in the Office of the Council Secretary. ITEM 1. Faculty Town Hall Meeting Dr. Greenberg reminded Council of the February 5th Town Hall Meeting and invited their attendance. ITEM 2. Board of Trustees Presentations The draft agendas of MUHA and MUSC February board meetings were discussed and finalized for the Board Chair's approval and preparation and mailing of the agenda booklets. ACTION: Council finalized the agenda ITEM 3. Financial Updates As of December 31, 2002 all units reported positive bottom lines. MUSC had a $5.9, MUHA $5.2 Million, UMA positive figures, and CFC positive figures. MUHA informed Council that their performance as of 12/31/02 varied from that projected and attributed the variance to costs associated with planning and preparations for the new hospital facility, increased costs in personnel and supplies, and decreases in Medicaid payments. ACTION: Council received this as information and thanked all units for continued hard work. ITEM 4. Spending Rate Report Ms. Edwards reported that the overall MUSC State fund spending is at 99% after the recently imposed budget cut. She informed Council that another reduction might be enacted this year; thus, spending needs to be kept below budged levels. ACTION: Council will work with appropriate officials in follow-up with departments. ITEM 5. University Word Mark Ms. Chris Murray informed Council of the Communications Council's Graphic Standards Committee's recommendations to adopt the tag line "Discovering. Understanding. Healing." to follow the existing MUSC logo. ACTION: Council adopted the recommended tag line by acclamation. ITEM 6. Updates Due to the lateness of the hour, Council deferred updates until its next meeting. |
