PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL MINUTES
September 15, 2004

Present: Tom Anderson, Wallace Bonaparte, Kathy Chessman, John Clark, Jim Fisher, Joe Good, Ray Greenberg, Perry Halushka, Sarah King, Casey Martin, Lisa Montgomery, Jerry Reves, Sabra Slaughter, Stuart Smith, and Walker Coleman

ITEM 1 Board of Trustees Agendas Preparations

Draft agendas and agenda items for both MUHA and MUSC October board meetings were reviewed with guest speakers identified as well as special discussion items previewed/refined.

ACTION: The draft agendas were approved for finalization pending additional input from Provost Raymond who was absent and Mr. Taylor after his review of draft Faculty Senate By-laws. Arrangements will be made for a special recognition of exemplary Engineering and Facilities staff work over several weekends in storm control.

ITEM 2 General Updates

Dr. Reves reported that the previous evening’s tribute to Senator Hollings was a resounding success with over $ 2 Million raised to support the HCC.

Mr. Fisher announced today’s 2004/05 United Way campaign kickoff with chairs Ms. Lisa Montgomery and Dr. Peter Van Dorsten.

Ms. Montgomery and Mr. Anderson will oversee proper follow-up to several behavior complaints recently received by Mr. Bonaparte.

Dr. Greenberg reported for Provost Raymond that the research funding continues to set unprecedented records.

Dr. Slaughter discussed plans underway for celebrating the February ‘05 Children’s Research Institute opening, with Council reminding that similar plans are needed for the CHP opening which should occur soon thereafter.
