• Jim Fisher – Dedication of new College of Dental Medicine is this coming Saturday (February 27th) and 710 attendees are expected.
• Jack Sanders-Council on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approved the CoDM class expansion by 25%

ITEM II. Financial Updates

University Financials
• Maintaining good cash balance
• Overall expenditures down $6 million
• $1M additional F&A coming to the institution related to ARRA fund draw-downs

Hospital Financials
• Higher surgical volume and patients with higher acuity have resulted in improved net revenue.
• 12.6 days cash on hand ($30.8M cash). Anticipate 21 days cash on hand by FY end
• Cash is stable even while paying $18 million in principal on ART and energy plant debt.

UMA Financials
• Total expenses up 3%
• CFC slight dip in clinical revenue due to Parkwood Peds closing
• $112M (200 days cash in hand)

• High rates of occurrence in SC
• Marc Judson is a leader in this area
• Significant fundraising opportunities exist
• Passed for approval by Board of Trustees

• Overview of current strategic planning initiatives by David McNair and Betsy Pilcher
• 40% rate of completion at this point

ITEM V. General Updates

Sabra Slaughter – National Conference on Health Disparities – MUSC is providing leadership and is working with a number of prominent partners to develop another successful conference in 2010.

Jim Fisher/Development - $320M raised in capital campaign. Benchmark institutions suffered a 12% decline while we experienced 5% increase.

MUSC Foundation
• $320M in net assets from $276M last year.

Wally Bonaparte – Steadily increasing our enrollment of minority students. MUSC is the #2 ranked state-supported higher education institution in terms of attainment of affirmative action goals.

Joe Good – working diligently on conflict of interest matters.

Foundation for Research Development
• had meetings with SC diagnostics company. FRD developing broader relationships with industry besides single license relationships.
• Closing in on business industry liaison position being filled College of Medicine
• Admissions quality of applicants is way up and numbers of applicants overall are up.

Faculty Senate/Chris Davies
• Noted that Senate is updating Faculty handbook – mostly typos and inconsistencies
• Welcome reception – need to determine who will take over after Peggy Schachte retires.
• Initiatives
    - Contact legislators on cigarette tax
    - Conflict of commitment – conflict of interest
    - Standards of behavior / HR Discussion
    - Faculty Contracts

VPFA- Lisa Montgomery
• Looking at design phase of ERP system
• External consultants to look at central administration infrastructure and how costs will be allocated
• Looking at use of ARRA funds

College of Dental Medicine-Jack Sanders
• Advocated for change in tuition matrix to benefit college efforts to expand out of state students and overall student enrollment.

MUHA-Stuart Smith
• Census up to 626 which is not a record but close. Maintaining full occupancy in hospital.

OCIO-Frank Clark
• Submitted BEACON proposal-should learn status in March.

President-Ray Greenberg
• Final phase of CoM Dean search – 3 finalists; negotiations should begin in March
• Still recruiting CoEE Chairs – got an outstanding Cancer Center recruit in Dr. Li. Dr. Guillette – Marine Genomics – mentioned last time; Dr. Steve Kautz – CHP – not CoEE but still big recruit.
• Working group has been formed on Military Medicine
• Positive movement on the cigarette tax from legislature
