PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL
June 7, 2000

Present: Thad Bell, Rosalie Crouch, Bo Faulkner, Jim Fisher, Layton McCurdy, Ray Greenberg, Bob Gallager, Sarah King, Danielle Ripich, Sabra Slaughter (Council Secretary), Stuart Smith, Marion Woodbury, and Walker Coleman

The single subject of this meeting was "Financial Challenges & Proposed Resolutions". Presentations were made by Dr. McCurdy on behalf of the College of Medicine and broader clinical segments; Mr. Wooodbury on UMA and Carolina Family Care; and Mr. Gallager on his area of the University as well as broader potential cost savings. The Medical Center deferred its presentation until further discussions are held about the concepts/future plans for Ambulatory Care and Primary Care. Handouts associated with these presentations are on file with the Council Secretary.

Any immediate actions to resolve the financial challenges were held off until after a follow-up special meeting of Council. This was scheduled for the following day, Thursday June 8, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room with the following assignments:

All V.P.s will present any specific plans for immediate action as well as subsequent actions anticipated over the next six months.

Ms. King will present a related comprehensive communications plan to include timetables.

Mr. Fisher will present a related plan for informing University donors.

Ms. J. Jones of HRM will be asked to attend for information and consultation.
